Thalay La/Mashabrum Base Camp Trek

Thalay La/Mashabrum Base Camp Trek

We start from the town of Skardu and Shigar, to the tiny seasonal settlements of the upper valleys where the fascinating Balti culture is well displayed. In terms of natural landscape also the trip is particularly varied ranging from the sands of the Indus valley, by way of the “Alpine " lower valley, to the high snows of the spectacular peaks, which surround the Thaley La.
To each of the campsites we must climb up beside the snout of the Masharbrum glacier and follow a ridge of lateral moraine to a flat area at the mouth of a second large tributary valley. Skirting the valley's edge on a narrow rock ledge, before rejoining the moraines passing a cluster of deserted stone huts and climbing up to the jumble of ice and rocks that lead us to Masharbrum.

Nanga Parbat Mazeno Pass Trek

Nanga Parbat Mazeno Pass Trek

At Gurikot, about ten kilometers south of Astor, a jeep road follows the fertile, wooded Khirirn Valley for 40 kilometers to the army post at Chilim and continues across the Deosai Plateau to Skardu. The best-known treks from Astor lead west and southwest, to the east and south sides of Nanga Parbat. This huge mountain is not a single peak but a series of ridges culminating in an ice crest 8,125 meters high-ranked ninth highest in the world and second in Pakistan after K2. The name Nanga Parbat means 'naked mountain', so called because some of its slopes are so steep that they are bare of snow or vegetation.
Early disasters on Nanga Parbat gave it the nick-name Killer Mountain or mangeur d'homme. Twelve climbers and 18 Sherpa had died there since 1937. The monster was finally conquered in 1953 (one month after the ascent of Everest) by a joint Austrian-German expedition; Hermann BuhI made the final ascent in a strenuous forty one hour solo ordeal without oxygen. Today's death score is 47-far fewer than have lost their lives on Everest.

Shimshal Trek

Rainbow rock

Shimshal Trek

If you are interested in seeing the mighty Karakorams from the north, then you must visit Shimshal. This last remnant of true Hunza culture exists near Pakistan's Pamir east of the town of Passu in upper Hunza valley. Our walk begins at Dut and we reach the remote village of Shimshal in about three days of trekking. At each step we are amazed how a path has been carved in this deep and narrow ravine on the way to Shimshal. The reason why Shimshal was located in such an out-of-the-way place is because this is where the Mir (ruler) of Hunza used to send his people who were found guilty of crimes and also those who he just did not like!Shimshalis now are a proud and hardy folk. Their hospitality is legendary and the natural beauty that they inhabit makes us feel that perhaps the Mir sentenced them to heaven, not hell!

Our trek now veers northwards from Shimshal and we enter the lovely and remote Ghujerab valley. Here we cross the Boesam Pass and the Chapchingiol Pass to reach the trail head at Kuksel. This is where we meet the KKH and our jeeps which will transport us back to Hunza.

The trek from Shimshal to Kuksel takes us into a very remote area and gives us a chance to see some of the endangered wildlife in the Khunjerab National Park. If we are lucky we may be able to observe Markhor, Ibex, Marco polo, Sheep and even the elusive magnificent Snow Leopard. This is ideal high Pamir meadow country strewn with thousands of colorful flowers. This is a tough trek and ropes are provided for various river crossings and as aid at other steep places

Diran/ Rakaposhi BC Trek & Hunza Tour

Diran/ Rakaposhi BC Trek & Hunza Tour

Most visitors only see the Bagrot valley's broad alluvial fan across the Gilgit River. 15 km downstream from Gilgit. Its narrow, lower reaches are desolate, but above Sinakkar it's a cultivated and settled valley. From Bagrot, the stunning south faces of Rakaposhi (7788m) and Diran ( 7266m) peaks, as well as the lovely twin summits of Bilchar Dobani (6134m) are visible. Phuparash (6785m), Malubiting (7458m), Laila (6986m) and Haramosh (7409m) peaks tower over the Haramosh valley, which lies east of Bagrot and branches north from the Indus River. Treks in these valleys, seldom on trekker's itineraries, are readily accessible by road with mostly easy trails and superb views.

Nanga Parbat BC & Hunza

Nanga Parbat Base Camp & Hunza

Within just 2 weeks, we do the gentle trek (two different routes) to the base camp of Nanga Parbat (8125m. /26650ft), the world's ninth highest peak and 2nd highest in the Himalayan range of Pakistan. After driving from Islamabad to Chilas on the amazing Karakoram Highway, we transfer by 4x4 jeeps to the villages of Tato and make the short walk to our next camp. Camping beneath Nanga Parbat “The sleeping beauty” is an unforgettable experience. We have time to trek to the mountains base camp and nearby viewpoints. The second half of our journey is based around the picturesque old Hunza capital of Karimabad, where our selection of day hikes and excursions includes an amazing variety of sights, such as the Utar Icefall and the bustling bazaar at Gilgit.
The trekking that we will be undertaking on these trips is all on good trails. Walking up to Fairy Meadows is very straightforward, but the optional day hike up to Nanga Parbat base camp does involve a relatively long day of trekking. Similarly, there is another longish trekking day on our hike above Karimabad to the meadows below Ultar. This is a steep climb and will provide the most challenging day's walk of the trip. Generally, however, this is not a sustained trek and we do have lots of time to rest and to enjoy the scenery between trekking days.

Baltoro, Gondogoro and K7 BC Trek

The opening of the 5450m high Gondogoro La adds a new dimension to the magnificent K2 Trek, making it possible to return via the beautiful Hushe Valley. Given a little luck with weather the view from the Gondogoro La pass is just incomparable, anywhere in the world. From no other place on earth can one see such incredible views of K2 (8611m) the second highest peak in the world, and world's most beautiful high pyramid, Broad Peak (8048m), Gasherbrums I to 6, Golden Throne (7240m), Chogolisa (7665m), and the entire upper Baltoro Massif. This trek requires a good degree of physical fitness, as the variable weather conditions make the crossing of pass quite challenging, but more rewarding too. It is recommended that the trek may be started from, Askole as group can reach up to Concordia being able to see major Baltoro Peaks and, return the same route in case of extreme snow conditions and unkind weather situations. Biafo Hisper Snow Lake Trek

Biafo Hisper Snow Lake Trek

Biafo Glacier and Hispar glacier with total length of 126 km and longest out side the Polar Regions. They meet at the 5,150 meters high Hispar pass. This immense high way of ice and stones connects- the antique kingdoms of Nagar in west and Askoli (little Tibet) in east.
This route was extensively used to connect silk route with Indian sub continent, China and Tibet. Mr. H.W Tilman an English trekker claimed in 1937 that he had seen the foot prints of yeti on the glacier. The same way used to serve for people of Hunza to invade Askoli, which latter served as a more progressive way between Hunza and Askoli as the people of Hunza come over to Askoli to play POLO with the people of Askoli.
This life-long experience ends at the beautiful Hunza Valley; the Valley of Eternal Youth & home of the most progressive people as compared to other parts of Northern Areas. In Karimabad, we visit Altit and Baltit Forts and enjoy the view from the roof-top of the Baltit fort which is an unforgettable experience. The people of Hunza are known for their longevity in the world. Glaciologists after conducting tests on the snow lake confirmed that the thickness of snow is one mile deep. Here one can observe the rare species of animals in abundance like snow leopards, Himalayan bears, Ibex, Markhore and some times the Marco polo Sheep.
